Johnny Depp has carved out a niche in his movie career as taking the strange, kookie and weird roles in Hollywood. And every strange, weird and kookie male actor needs a leading lady.
A Johnny Depp movie without Helena Bonham Carter is never the same. The movies where they have teamed up tend to have the most freak factor and are always a little on the strange and mysterious side.
Another common factor between Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp appears to be Tim Burton. When this team gets together you know it's going to be dark and creepy. Here are the movies that Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter have appeared in together. They are also all directed by Tim Burton!

The Lone Ranger
Directed by Gore Verbinkski
Gore Verbinski has stolen a page from Tim Burton's book and taken his popular leading lady and man and put them into a western. Ok it's not your typical Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter film, but The Lone Ranger was in cinema's worldwide this summer just past.
Even though this is a cowboy movie and set in the past, Depp takes his character beyond the "norm" and makes his character a little strange and other worldy. Tonto speaks to his horse about things people wouldn't normally speak to their pets about. He talks out loud to himself too and he helps the white man overcome the recent bad events that have taken place and to fight back.
Helena Bonham Carter plays a damsel in distress, with her own unique flair of course.

How Are Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter Connected?
It may seem strange that an American actor and a British actress show up in the same movies so often, but in this case there is a reason for this. Johnny Depp got his first big break with Edward Scissorhands, which was directed by Tim Burton.
Tim Burton directs a lot of dark and creepy kind of movies and has his own style and flair when it comes to the actors he chooses. It would make sense that he would need an equally dark and twisted female lead for his movies. Helena Bonham Carter is well known for playing strange roles and it's hard to imagine anyone else being able to do what she does so well.
After appearing in a number of Tim Burton movies together Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp are good friends.
Alice in Wonderland
Johnny Depp stars as the Mad Hatter in the latest movie to depict the tale of Alice Through the Looking Glass. In Tim Burton's interpretation of the movie, Alice is revisiting Wonderland. Well everyone in the alternate universe assume she's the same Alice, but technically it's not.
Alice is on the run from a would be future husband. She finds herself "down the rabbit hole" in another world. She quickly discovers she's not safe here either, as the Queen of Hearts wants her head.
You see, Alice is the champion they've all been waiting for to take the Queen of Hearts down a peg or two, since she's been in charge of Wonderland for far too long.
Helena Bonham Carter plays the evil Queen and has the most amazing costume!

How Does Johnny Depp Choose the Characters He is Willing to Play?
Johnny Depp has chosen a different path from the normal Hollywood star and has often taken roles that surprised critics. Other times he has taken what would appear to be a role in a mainstream movie and then brought his flavor of eccentricity and changed the style of the movie completely.
A perfect example of this would be Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. His latest role of Tonto, in the Lone Ranger, is set to be another example of his unique charaterizations.
However, since he has purposely carved himself a niche in this category orf strange and weird, it makes perfect sense that he would agree to any and all Tim Burton projects he is offered. You can see more of Johnny Depp's movie choices and life choices by watching the Johnny Depp Biography.
Charlie and The Chocolate Factory
A remake of the classic Willie Wonka movie which starred Gene Wilder. However in this version Willie Wonka is played by Johnny Depp and instead of being eccentric and over the top, he's a little creepy at times.
However, the movie was still amazing and had great special effects and of course had Oompa Loopa's. Helena Bonham Carter plays Charlie Bucket's Mother.
